During the Italian Renaissance humanism influenced a secular way of life. Humanism was a moevement that recaptured the ideas of classical time periods and influenced human achievement. Humanism ideas were portrayed in works of literature and especially art. Religious themes were not as commonly found in art. More worldly ideas like portraits and scenery were common. Through certain kinds of art like portraits, individual sucess reflected ideas of humanism. In a portrait called Simonetta, by Alessandro Botticelli(144-1510), the face in the portrait portrays self confidence, sophistication and determination, all qualities that were valued in Humanism,in order for individual acheivement.

I agree with Tori L, Humanism did bring back the classical, 'Greco Roman' way of life back to the Renaissance. Religion was also not as big as a factor as living was.

I agree with crystal and tori becuase of humanism and the new concept of individual achievement religous themed paintings were very uncommon. Painting and scultpures began to focus on and capture human beings with distinctive characteristics and how they actually appeared. Paintings and sculptures became less symbolic of religion and began to encourage individual success by portraying it in paintings, literature, and sculptures.

I agree with Tori because humanism had revived cultures. Humanism also was a way to prove that the Renaissance had completely changed the way people had seen life. Artists jobs were majorly altered because now instead of caputuring religous themes they mainly focused on human achievemenet and success. It was very uncommon to find a reglious based piece of art from this time period. A famous piece of art from this time perios is Andre del Verrocchio(ca.1435-1488) Sculpture of General Batolommeo Colleoni the way he is sitting with his back up straight and not hunched over and the facial expressions illustrates pride, achievement, and self confidence.

I agree with tori; Humanism influenced the visual arts in the Italian Renaissance to become rather secular. For example, Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper, which is a religious painting, shows a linear perspective showing everyone from an elevated viewpoint. Also, in regards of characterisitics, each person in the painting has very diverse traits and they each have distinct differences. Overall, humanism had a major impact on the visual arts during the Italian Renaissance, causing them to be more realistic and less symbolic.

Humanism had a great influence on everything during the Italian Renaissance especially art. Instead of people drawing pictures and making things to do with the church people started looking at individual beauty and individual achievements. Artist started painting living people and anything that looked appeasing to the human eye. A famous piece of art by Albecht Durer (1500) was a self portrait of himself in a fur coat. It is a drawing that shows individuality and success. I agree with Olivia k. because she is saying that the influence of humanism on visual arts was positive.
